Are you looking for men’s watches? Well, you’ve come to the right article! Today, I am going to help you choose the right watch for a man, but first, let me talk about the different watch types out there.
Different Watch Types
There are three prevailing watch types that you can find in the market today. These are the mechanical watches, automatic watches, and quartz watches.
The very first watch is the mechanical watch. It uses a mainspring in its mechanism so that it can help tell the time. The problem with a mechanical watch is that you will have
to manually wind it so that it can tell the time and there are some inaccuracies when it comes to its timekeeping features. However, there is so much promise and value to
mechanical watches, despite it being dethroned by the next type of watch.
The automatic watch helps solve the problem of mechanical watches in that the user does not have to manually wind the watch every day to preserve its timekeeping functionality.
To help power the device, the watch has a self-winding mechanism that can help hold some power; just enough for it to last a couple of hours or day after the removal of the watch from the user’s wrist.
The mechanism, in other words, requires you to move as your kinetic energy will be converted into useful energy that it can tap into to power the watch and somehow preserve its accuracy. Although it is not as accurate as a quartz watch, the watch’s movement is just so appealing to look at because of its smooth sweeping motion.
Choice of Materials
Now that you know the different watch types, it is now important to tackle the choice of materials. Not all watches are the same because they are made of different materials such as precious metals like gold and silver, stainless steel, among many others.
Pure gold watches are quite expensive but they do look gorgeous. However, most men would go for stainless steel since it just looks more masculine than its gold counterparts- not to mention that both of these materials are protected from corrosion.
As for the strap, there are plenty of different options. Stainless steel wristbands are preferred for men who want to wear their timepiece for formal occasions. It helps them look more masculine and at the same time, it just looks really good.
The problem with metal straps is that it can be painful for some. If you want another type of material that you can use for formal events, you can choose a leather strap instead.
Rubber straps are only good for casual or sporty watches. These straps are ideal for more active individuals mainly because they are resistant to sweat and can be submerged underwater for quite a long time. Though, rubber straps are not ideal for formal events as they look quite clunky.
When Choosing a Watch
When you will buy your watch, there are three important considerations. First is the watch’s movement. Ideally, you want to choose either automatic or quartz movements.
Second is the size of the watch. You want one that fits your wrist perfectly. Although oversized watches are popular these days, I would still recommend that you buy one that fits you perfectly.
Lastly, you want to choose the right materials. Choose one that is appropriate for the occasion.
