First-time parents are always anxious with regards to their incoming baby and they are usually going by the book. However, you can grasp some really useful tips, especially when it comes to saving money when buying some of your baby’s essentials. This includes baby milk bottles, strollers, carriers, and so much more.
In today’s article, I will go over some ways you can save money when having a baby.
Ask for Free Samples
Believe it or not, hospitals and pediatricians are not shy of providing free samples of baby essentials such as diapers, medicines, and a whole lot more.
However, because these entities can become quite busy, they may forget to provide you with a goodie bag full of freebies.
Therefore, put it upon yourself to ask for freebies. Trust me, the hospital or the doctor does provide such.
Avoid Additional Charges
There are some things in a hospital that actually aren’t for free. Sure, you may have gotten a discount on your private room, but once you turn on that TV, that will be an additional expense.
Look, there are some hospitals that will charge you for mundane things and there are some that would not. Make sure to confer with the hospital staff regarding the free things that you can do while you’re in your room.
Use Cloth Diapers
Babies can get really dirty which is why you will need to change their diapers multiple times a day. That being said, if you are using disposable diapers, you may have gotten them for cheap at your local store.
But, once you add it up, you will be surprised as to how much money you could have saved if you used a cloth diaper instead.
Buy Secondhand Clothes
Babies can grow really fast and the baby clothes that you have stockpiled before they were born may eventually be outgrown in a couple of months.
That is the reason why you want to talk to other parents and ask them if they will sell some of their baby’s clothes. You will be surprised that a lot of parents actually do.
Ditch the Wipes
Like disposable baby diapers, baby wipes can actually be quite expensive if you really tally the total amount that you have spent thus far.
That is why instead of buying disposable baby wipes, you can use a soft flannel cloth or something similar and then use a spray bottle with a special cleaning (but gentle) concoction instead.
Don’t Invest in a Baby Bathtub…Yet
If you have a newborn baby or a relatively young child, you can ditch the baby bathtub for now. What you can do instead is to just use your own tub or gently wash them in the sink.
Repurpose Some Clothes
As I’ve said earlier, baby clothes can be outgrown quickly which is why you can repurpose some of them. For instance, you can use old baby clothes and turn them into bibs.
Don’t Buy Baby Shoes Early On
Baby shoes are definitely one of your baby’s essentials, but if you have a baby less than a year old, then you can skip it for now. Only buy them when they are already able to walk.
